Work from home this and remote working that. As a society, we are no longer strangers to the home office. However, Wurkr is not the only company trying to get companies and their workers to embrace the new normal. Many large corporations have extended their remote work plans to more workers for the foreseeable future.
Here are just a few:
1. Amazon
The largest global online retailer has set its sights on the world of remote working. Amazon employs over 91 000 employees worldwide whilst offering customers the ability to order books, e-books, furniture, household essentials, clothing and more all at the click of a button.
It must be noted that many Amazon employees, such as delivery drivers, are not able to work from home. However, employees whose job roles enable them to work remotely are able to do so until June 2021.
The multinational financial services and goods provider has extended its remote working plans. American express employees can continue to work remotely until the beginning of September 2021.
3. Dropbox
This WFH friendly company helps keep many remote workers in sync as people and companies can access the same files and collaborate on projects from anywhere.
On 13th October 2020, the Dropbox team announced via a blog post that ‘starting today, Dropbox is becoming a Virtual First company. Remote work (outside an office) will be the primary experience for all employees and the day-to-day default for individual work.’
Dropbox has made a post-Covid commitment to remote working. The company has announced that it will let all employees work remotely or flexibly permanently. Their current office space will become a co-working space, where workers can choose to work from if they wish.
4. Facebook
As the latest global social media network with over 2.6 billion monthly users, Facebook has a lot of workers.
The social network has announced that it will allow half of its eligible employees to work remotely permanently. However, the rest of its workers will remain working from home until July 2021.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg mentioned the perks of hiring a distributed team on a livestream in May 2020: “When you limit hiring to people who live in a small number of big cities, or who are willing to move there, that cuts out a lot of people who live in different communities, have different backgrounds, have different perspectives.”
So Facebook may even extend their remote working policy further…
5. Microsoft
The multinational technology corporation has dipped their toe into the world of remote working. Microsoft employees can enjoy a hybrid working model. Workers can work remotely for half of the week. However, managers have the ability to allow staff members to work remotely full-time.
6. Salesforce
Salesforce helps a wide range of businesses to connect with customers by managing their customer relationships. The company has announced that the traditional working week is dead. Therefore, they have introduced 3 working options for their workers: Flex (in office only 1–3 days / week), full-time remote working and physical office (for workers that need to be in office 4–5 days / week).
7. Skillshare
Skillshare is one of the fastest growing online learning communities with over 3 million remote students. With courses on a wide-range of subjects including design, technology, finance and film. Due to its remote learning environment, it may come as no surprise that Skillshare is moving to permanent remote working for all of its employees.
8. Twitter
The online social network and news service allows people to message and interact with their followers internationally at the click of a button using concise messages.
Twitter employees will be able to work remotely indefinitely, whilst still having the flexibility to go into the physical office if they need.
In a statement shared on 12th May 2020, Jennifer Christie, Twitter’s VP, People said “If our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen.”
9. Zillow
CEO Rich Barton declared Zillow’s temporary work from home plans in April 2020. Whilst the company was only meant to remain remote until the end of 2020, in July 2020 Zillow has extended their plans indefinitely.
Zillow’s Chief People Officer, Dan Spaulding, announced in a blog post that by offering over 90% of employees the flexibility to work from home, at least part-time, workers will be given the option to work from wherever they feel most productive.
Now Zillow employees are able to work from home permanently if they desire to do so.
10. Hubspot
HubSpot’s always been known for its flexible approach to working. However, on 19th August 2020 the marketing, sales, and service software company declared that they would be dropping the ‘ish’ from their ‘remote-ish approach.
Katie Burke, Chief People Officer, announced in a blog post that Hubspot is ‘going to shift to a hybrid remote-office model where career growth is equitable for everyone, whether you do your best work in an office or in a home office.’
